So, what happens during the CD replication process?
While CD duplication or DVD duplication involves burning information to a disk, CD replication involves the actual molding of compact discs from tiny polycarbonate beads so that the discs exactly mirror the original master disc. At S&J, we make each disc so our customers can rest assured quality goes into the mix. One of the primary ingredients in the beads used to produce CDs is crude oil. This is why customers will discover the cost of both CD and DVD manufacturing tends to fluctuate right along with the crude oil market.
During the CD replication process, your original master is used to make a specialized glass master CD. This glass master, in turn, enables us to create a special set of metal stampers. The pits and grooves on the glass master are transformed into tiny spikes on the stamper. Once a stamper is made, we get to work on your individual CDs. The polycarbonate beads are melted and placed into high-tech injection molding equipment. Exact clones of the master are crafted by pressing the stamper for your project into the molten polycarbonate ring. This results in an identical copy of the data or audio on your original CD. After we finish this, a coat of reflective aluminum is placed on top of the CD and is sealed with a lacquer coat that provides protection. This coat is hardened through the use of ultraviolet light.
While your CD replication process is technically complete at this point, S&Jís work isnít complete just yet. The next step in the CD manufacturing process involves silk screen or offset printing. Then we either spindle or package your finished discs into casings with or without inserts for delivery. The final result is a CD replication that is of the same quality you might find in a software or record store.
